How do ASTM D8267 and ASTM D6379 differ in aromatics analysis?
The older standard ASTM D6379 uses liquid chromatography (HPLC) with refractive index detection to divide into mono- and diaromatics. In contrast, ASG Analytik uses gas chromatography coupled with a vacuum ultraviolet detector (GC-VUV) to identify hydrocarbon groups directly via their specific absorption spectrum in the wavelength range of 125 to 240 nanometers for precise structural analysis. This allows a clear quantification, as the absorption cross-sections of the substance classes clearly differ from each other.
What are the advantages of GCxGC and GC-VUV for kerosene analysis?
Two-dimensional gas chromatography (GCxGC) separates substances orthogonally according to two different physical properties such as boiling point and polarity. A modulator focuses the eluates of the first column and injects them in batches onto the second, selective separation column. In combination with spectral detectors (such as the GC-VUV), coelutive compounds are resolved, which remain overlapped in the one-dimensional standard GC.
What are the test criteria for blending Jet A-1 with SAF according to ASTM D7566?
In order to add a biogenic, renewable content to fossil jet A-1, the ASTM D7566 standard regulates the release and blending of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). However, the pure SAF component is subject to additional criteria prior to the mixing process, which are described in the annexes to ASTM D7566.
Can jet A-1 and new SAF developments be measured with the AFIDA in terms of cetane number?
Yes, the AFIDA (Advanced Fuel Ignition Delay Analyzer) developed by ASG may be used to measure the cetane number according to the ASTM D1655 and ASTM D4054 specifications.
